Welcome to Checkatrade Shop ("Checkatrade Shop", "we", "us", or "our"), a UK-based online marketplace platform where independent third-party sellers ("Sellers") offer goods and, in some cases, services such as installation and surveys.
These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Checkatrade Shop, whether you access it via our website or any mobile application. By using our services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use our platform.
The following terms and conditions and policies apply to your use of the Checkatrade Shop:
Terms of Use, Acceptable Use Policy, Cookie Policy and Privacy Policy
For the avoidance of doubt, the provisions of the Checkatrade Guarantee shall not apply to any goods purchased through or installations made via the Checkatrade Shop.
You must be over 18 to use the Checkatrade Shop.
Checkatrade Shop is operated by Vetted Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under Company Number 04285394, with its registered office at 21 Caledonian Road, London N1 9DX.
We act solely as a marketplace provider and do not own the products or perform the services sold by Sellers on our platform.
Sellers on Checkatrade Shop fall into two categories:
All Sellers must complete Checkatrade's standard company-level vetting, and Supply + Install/Fit Sellers must also meet additional subcontractor checks. Exemptions may apply in certain limited circumstances.
You can find more details on vetting process in our
Checkatrade Shop provides a platform where Sellers can list their goods and services, and where buyers can place orders. When you purchase a product or book a service, your contract is formed with the Seller, not with Checkatrade Shop.
In being part of the Checkatrade Shop marketplace you understand that:
As a member of the community, you have the opportunity to flag an item or a Seller that violates any of our policies. You can do that by email to [email protected]
Each Seller is solely responsible for:
We do not control or own the products, nor do we guarantee the quality or safety of products or services sold by Sellers. We provide payment processing services and act only as an agent for the Sellers when taking payment on their behalf.
Checkatrade Shop is available across the UK, including Northern Ireland. Some products may be subject to different delivery timelines or restrictions because of customs rules and regulatory requirements.
Products sold on Checkatrade Shop relate to home renovation and improvement. Sellers may also offer additional services, such as installation or surveys. These services are part of your contract with the Seller and not with Checkatrade Shop.
Some Sellers may offer installation, fitting, or survey services ("Additional Services") alongside their products. Where available, these services will be described in the relevant product or service listing and may be included in the displayed price or offered as an optional extra.
If you choose to use these services, you do so entirely at your own discretion. Your agreement for any Additional Services is directly with the Seller, and not with Checkatrade Shop. We do not deliver, manage, supervise, or guarantee the quality of these services, and we are not responsible for their performance or outcome.
All responsibilities relating to scheduling, service delivery, workmanship, delays, cancellations, or disputes rest solely with the Seller. Checkatrade Shop accepts no liability for any aspect of these services, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
In some cases, you may choose to engage an independent tradesperson, installer, or surveyor to assist with your purchase. If you do so, this is entirely at your own discretion and risk. Your contract will be strictly between you and the tradesperson or service provider. Checkatrade Shop is not a party to this contract and accepts no responsibility for the service provided, including its quality, timing, safety, compliance, or any outcomes resulting from the work carried out.
You are solely responsible for checking the credentials, qualifications, insurance, availability, and suitability of any tradesperson or service provider you choose to engage, as well as for reviewing and agreeing to their terms directly. Checkatrade Shop does not vet, monitor, or supervise their work and cannot be held liable for any advice given or work performed.
Orders can be placed directly through Checkatrade Shop. A contract between you and the Seller is formed when the Seller confirms dispatch of the goods or accepts your booking for services.
In some cases, such as where you request a survey or order samples, the journey may continue on the Seller's domain, and the contract will then be formed on that domain without any involvement of Checkatrade or the Checkatrade Shop.
All prices displayed on the platform are in GBP and include VAT where applicable. Payments are processed securely by Checkatrade Shop through our payment services partner.
Additional delivery charges may apply for orders shipped to Northern Ireland. Any such charges will be clearly displayed before checkout.
We may receive a commission from Sellers in connection with your activity on the Checkatrade Shop. This includes:
These commissions are paid by the Sellers to Checkatrade and are not an extra charge at checkout.
From time to time, discounts, offers, or promotions may be displayed on the Checkatrade Shop. These are provided directly by the relevant Seller or Checkatrade Shop and are subject to that Seller's own terms and conditions or Checkatrade Shop as applicable.
No Guarantee of Availability: Discounts and promotions are offered at the Seller or Checkatrade Shop's discretion as the case may be. They may be amended, withdrawn, or cancelled at any time without notice.
Responsibility: Responsibility for a promotion rests with the party administering it and the terms and conditions applicable to it.
Prices for goods and services listed on the Checkatrade Shop are set by individual Sellers. Responsibility for any applicable taxes on those goods lies with the Seller, who acts as the Merchant of Record.
Specifically:
You should review the pricing and tax details provided by Sellers prior to completing a purchase, and confirm any matters directly with the Seller where necessary
Sellers are responsible for arranging delivery and setting associated costs and timelines. Delivery estimates are provided for guidance only and may vary depending on the product or service. Risk in the goods passes to you when the products are delivered to you.
Deliveries to Northern Ireland may take longer and may require additional customs documentation. Sellers are responsible for ensuring compliance with any applicable import or regulatory requirements for goods shipped to Northern Ireland.
Where products and installation services are purchased together, the timing of delivery and service may differ and will be coordinated directly by the Seller or service provider.
Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, you have the right to cancel most purchases within 14 days of receiving your goods.
Certain products are excluded from this right, including:
To exercise your right to cancel or to request a refund, you must contact the Seller directly. Refunds will be processed promptly once the Seller confirms the return or cancellation.
Return costs for Northern Ireland orders may be higher than for mainland UK. These costs will be disclosed in the Seller's return policy.
A Seller may refuse or cancel orders if products, samples, or services are unavailable, if there are errors in price/description, or if delivery/service restrictions apply.
All refunds, returns, and exchanges are the responsibility of the Seller and are subject to the Seller's own returns and refund policy. We do not process refunds on behalf of Sellers and are not responsible for any decisions made by Sellers in respect of refund requests.
Buyers should refer to the relevant Seller's policy and contact the Seller directly to request or arrange a return, refund, or exchange.
Some products available on Checkatrade Shop - including but not limited to tools, bladed items, chemicals, electrical equipment, and other potentially hazardous or regulated items - may pose safety risks or fall under UK laws governing restricted or prohibited goods.
By purchasing such products, you confirm and agree that:
We reserve the right to:
Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 remain unaffected. If the goods or services are faulty, damaged, or not as described, you may be entitled to a refund, repair, or replacement from the Seller.
You should contact the Seller via their listed contact details to resolve any such issues.
Some products sold on Checkatrade Shop may be shipped by Sellers from outside the UK, including from European countries. When this happens, there are a few extra things you need to know:
Delivery for goods shipped from Europe or other international locations may take longer than UK deliveries. Estimated delivery dates are provided for guidance only and may be affected by customs checks or delays outside our control.
If your order is shipped from Europe or another country outside the UK, additional charges such as import VAT, customs duties, or clearance fees may apply.
Your rights under UK law remain the same, but returning goods to Europe or other international locations may take longer and cost more. Sellers will confirm any extra return costs before you send an item back.
All goods sold on Checkatrade Shop, including those shipped from outside the UK, must comply with UK safety and regulatory standards. Sellers are responsible for making sure their products meet these standards before shipping.
Certain products cannot legally be imported into the UK. If you order an item that cannot be shipped because of UK law, your order will be cancelled and you will receive a full refund.
We're not responsible for customs delays or extra costs caused by border checks or import restrictions.
Communication between buyers and Sellers will take place via email and will be the default mechanism for communications for Checkatrade Shop. Standards of communication will be governed by our Acceptable Use Policy.
Sellers are expected to respond to buyer queries within 72 hours. If an issue remains unresolved after this period, buyers may escalate the matter through Checkatrade's Dispute Resolution process.
Buyers who have completed a purchase through Checkatrade Shop may leave reviews about their experience. Reviews must be honest and not misleading. Customer reviews may also be used across Checkatrade services.
We reserve the right to remove reviews that are fraudulent, defamatory, or do not meet our standards. Please see our Acceptable Use policy.
You must not use the platform for unlawful purposes. You must not post harmful, fraudulent, or infringing content, nor may you harass other users. Any attempt to interfere with or disrupt the platform, including hacking, is prohibited.
Sellers retain ownership of the product content they upload. By uploading content, Sellers grant Checkatrade Shop a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, and distribute that content for the purpose of operating and marketing the platform.
We process your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and Cookies Policy. Sellers receive only the personal information necessary to fulfil your order.
Checkatrade Shop is not responsible for any contract between you and a Seller or third-party service provider. Our total liability to you in connection with any transaction is limited to the amount you paid for the relevant product or service.
We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence or for fraud.
If a court decides that any part of these Terms isn't valid or enforceable, that part will be reduced or removed as needed, but the rest will still apply in full. If we don't enforce a part of these Terms right away, it doesn't mean we're giving up our right to enforce it later. We may transfer our rights and responsibilities under these Terms to another party at any time.
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
We may update these Terms occasionally, which could include adding new sections or removing existing ones. If we make significant changes, we'll let you know beforehand by updating the information on our site and/or sending you an email or message.
If you continue to use our services after the changes take effect, it means you accept the updated Terms. If you don't agree with the new Terms, you can stop using our services and close your account at any time.
